[Vape-Free Kids NZ](https://vapefreekidsnz.org/updates/author/vape-free-kids-nz) Oct 3, 2024, 1:16:25 PM

With the new 1 October vaping regulations coming into force, [Vape-Free Kids NZ](https://www.facebook.com/groups/vapefreekidsnz/?__cft__[0]=AZXlH4AVHCLBwVPSpMJVMsnhyJoIhX4dsjA4bBcstlzQbAVSBsxNr5-jtPICddhw8PKI0r3oO8UzXVJbC7tWrfV6LCkV1Z6YdWsIy7lVsS9pDEf40NvNqQ8ecU4h5DyWYWotWcSEP8atMZygvI8bk1SuyYc5cLqZRuN07NTRKRh4nA&__tn__=-UK-R) decided to see if stores were still selling products they shouldn't be.

We found over 20 stores in Auckland, Wellington and Christhuch still selling illegal products including banned disposable vapes:

A storm of media coverage has been following Casey Costello around with RNZ revealing her heated tobacco tax cut plan has stalled with heated tobacco devices pulled from shelves:

[https://www.rnz.co.nz/.../casey-costello-s-tobacco-tax...](https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rnz.co.nz%2Fnews%2Fin-depth%2F529583%2Fcasey-costello-s-tobacco-tax-cut-plan-stalled-as-device-pulled-from-shelves%3Ffbclid%3DIwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR3TApxs_QpAS1hBBIu21ENwg5ON9Qpny5_R3uNVkNN3UBTBRI4MLbQPx7g_aem_OqtVojB5IV1b0NXZXBz4tQ&h=AT1GVns-365-mjSK-L9dx7vA-2QpRIuyejFtL9DH18kYdYQg3brCDkcOKk7XIW-heR5Jz3eLLzUURbaQadshEtO2DtZvh1jZU-cNbQGRvAQaksSKxb0GBElNUnLJto52dlhz&__tn__=-UK-R&c[0]=AT3Dw64Q9TnvYBIVzq5aBiRwgqabDcfvcEQLGFbvluBJYwKGJ36CXrUFyNlx26qpRQrCgskHEX5r1n7ndv3AWp22wiZplQZHWGI960ES7vAqX94vOIkY1MsNVEA-rNZg8Qmi_O62dFZ6QaCNtpK9tWq9Npr1Tkkqq3zptM5oE26XsrFkVfbq-WxjAFZgTAn_)

Minister Costello has vowed to release the ‘mystery independent advice’ about the benefits of heated tobacco products that has helped guide her decisions:

[https://www.rnz.co.nz/.../casey-costello-will-release...](https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rnz.co.nz%2Fnews%2Fpolitical%2F529649%2Fcasey-costello-will-release-independent-advice-about-benefits-of-heated-tobacco-products%3Ffbclid%3DIwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR1Fqw_K1hzvcaY8_KdYKR4twGssDkEPURx777kUced1pu5Pk4rB6HMmSHk_aem_GVHlqVNOajgapu2elleoQQ&h=AT2lXYjbipi7OgQOLjh0T9nBF9lXeIQ8XGseqWjRO-7bGWOoXIWzLTjSxS9_BFTfTDBS2j6ZfTgJ5EaRAXyB0qlJ7CqR8cTIGAow_-Fx2-B-pHzrhZOcMaw2rJaS0e6bzXH_&__tn__=-UK-R&c[0]=AT3Dw64Q9TnvYBIVzq5aBiRwgqabDcfvcEQLGFbvluBJYwKGJ36CXrUFyNlx26qpRQrCgskHEX5r1n7ndv3AWp22wiZplQZHWGI960ES7vAqX94vOIkY1MsNVEA-rNZg8Qmi_O62dFZ6QaCNtpK9tWq9Npr1Tkkqq3zptM5oE26XsrFkVfbq-WxjAFZgTAn_)

But that hasn't stopped growing calls for Costello to ‘Resign’:

[https://www.stuff.co.nz/.../resign-growing-calls-casey...](https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.stuff.co.nz%2Fpolitics%2F350438196%2Fresign-growing-calls-casey-costello-lose-portfolios-over-heated-tobacco-products%3Ffbclid%3DIwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR1zPdC7HhWw_YC1VpFeTz1LKkPSJo114yg96FZzMVjtVO3RlvuXDM85-U0_aem_bueNsvRioBnIHrcIpSrGTg&h=AT1opE49TEvo5y0RNjRGd2Pshn-ogiQhCLKmghw6fC02zlewLWc70qJSC508Xyxhd1S65YgxjR4QxOyeSC8j3Higx8DHYoKnMsTxOHaTcF4FpKXut00sD0Xa-49ZKYg7aDEn&__tn__=-UK-R&c[0]=AT3Dw64Q9TnvYBIVzq5aBiRwgqabDcfvcEQLGFbvluBJYwKGJ36CXrUFyNlx26qpRQrCgskHEX5r1n7ndv3AWp22wiZplQZHWGI960ES7vAqX94vOIkY1MsNVEA-rNZg8Qmi_O62dFZ6QaCNtpK9tWq9Npr1Tkkqq3zptM5oE26XsrFkVfbq-WxjAFZgTAn_)

Including calls from [Health Coalition Aotearoa](https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100093037767873&__cft__[0]=AZXlH4AVHCLBwVPSpMJVMsnhyJoIhX4dsjA4bBcstlzQbAVSBsxNr5-jtPICddhw8PKI0r3oO8UzXVJbC7tWrfV6LCkV1Z6YdWsIy7lVsS9pDEf40NvNqQ8ecU4h5DyWYWotWcSEP8atMZygvI8bk1SuyYc5cLqZRuN07NTRKRh4nA&__tn__=-]K-R) for PM [Christopher Luxon](https://www.facebook.com/christopherluxon?__cft__[0]=AZXlH4AVHCLBwVPSpMJVMsnhyJoIhX4dsjA4bBcstlzQbAVSBsxNr5-jtPICddhw8PKI0r3oO8UzXVJbC7tWrfV6LCkV1Z6YdWsIy7lVsS9pDEf40NvNqQ8ecU4h5DyWYWotWcSEP8atMZygvI8bk1SuyYc5cLqZRuN07NTRKRh4nA&__tn__=-]K-R) to stand Costello down and reverse tobacco tax cut decision:

[https://www.healthcoalition.org.nz/luxon-must-stand.../](https://www.healthcoalition.org.nz/luxon-must-stand-costello-down-and-reverse-tobacco-tax-cut-decision/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR344M9QDl-PuLEuxc96Y881oBa04ihrjuSvi9r-tJm58AKy9Q9nyMkxIFA_aem_RC4PqEMBy795nzLUzdDunw)

Given all these revelations, Vape-Free Kids NZ are continuing to advocate for fewer stores, more enforcement and stronger action from the Government. Especially with new vaping legislation being proposed.
